Data Breaches: Where's the Liability?
Hannaford Brothers announced that it lost 4.2 million credit/debit cards in a four month-long data breach last week. As a result, the industry is looking for a place to place liability. Hannaford didn’t store any customer or payment information that led to the breach, with the AP reporting that the data was stolen in transit from POS pinpad devices to banks. Does this mean the liability lies with the PCI auditors? Or does it lay with VISA for not having strict enough guidelines to its PCI DSS

The industry needs technical leadership, but where should it come from? We don't think it should come from a bank. What do you think?

What Needs to Happen with Data Security?
With all the talk about data security and the fuss over TJX’s massive data breach, potential opportunities have been overlooked. One such area that presents tremendous opportunity for retailers is online fraud detection and prevention. Our recent Loss Prevention report shows that retailers still view fraud detection as a traditional component of stop-loss initiatives. In fact, modern fraud detection and prevention tool sets offer a more practical ROI: a chance to mitigate fraudulent transactions from bad guys overseas and consequently avoid complicating (and potentially losing) legitimate sales.

What do you see for real opportunities in making the customer more secure that aren't getting much press?
