Loyalty in the Trenches: A View from Russia

As RSR’s base of survey respondents has grown more global, we’ve been able to tease out some fascinating differences in perspective from one region to the next – admittedly, we get our best data from North America, followed by Europe, Asia Pacific (which used to be primarily Japan and Australia, but now has a significant number of respondents from India and China), and in some cases Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. So, for example, from the loyalty research we did over the summer, we learned that among the business challenges retailers face around their customer programs, only 29% of North American respondents report that the concern that “customers already belong to too many loyalty programs” is a top-3 business challenge.

Upon opening up the San Francisco Chronicle over my first cup of coffee on Friday 12/5, I was surprised and pleased to see comments from a friend, Dr. Dale Achabal, on page one. Achabal’s comments to the Chronicle were in the context of whether or not “Black Friday” was enough to save the quarter for retailers. Basically, the answer was “no.”

Loss Prevention: More Important Now than Ever

It’s doubtful that any of us really need yet another news alert as to how tough it is out there. For Pete’s sake, the Wall Street Journal sends alerts of fear and panic 5 times a day to my email, which for many of us, find us on our mobile devices even when we’re trying to enjoy some rare time spent with loved ones. In fact, the US border with Mexico has been markedly quiet for the past few months, which many experts attribute not to enhanced numbers of border patrol agents, but to fewer Mexican citizens wishing to enter the United States’ economy.
