At an event last week hosted by tekservePOS in Schaumberg, IL (near Chicago), Jeff Wakefield of VeriFone gave the assembled retail technologists an update on the state of PCI compliance. Wakefield is VP of Global Security Solutions at VeriFone, and he also represents his company on the PCI Security Standards Council Board of Advisors. As virtually every U.S. retailer that processes roughly $500,000 or more in payment card transactions a year knows, PCI is “the gift that keeps on giving,” as the standards continue to evolve.

Loss Prevention 2010: An Early Look

A few months ago, we launched a survey asking retailers about the state of loss prevention within their organizations. At that time, we anticipated that the economic downturn would result in some reported increases both in the amount of shrink retailers cite taking place in their stores, as well as an increase in their priority to stop it. As unemployment remains high, we expected to hear of increasingly more desperate customers and employees.

Beyond Mobile: Augmented Reality for Retail

I think the time has come to talk about something that has been increasing in buzz in the general tech community, because of the potential to apply it to retail.
