The Next Massive Credit Card Breach Hits: Hannaford Brothers

Maine-based Hannaford Brothers has just announced that it is the victim of the next big customer data breach. But this one may prove to be quite different.
The chain is owned and operated by
Belgium' s Delhaize Group. Hannaford Brothers operates 165 stores throughout New England, while flying the Sweetbay banner above 106 stores in

About a month ago, I wrote about the methodology I'm using to figure out the impact that online sales really actually has on a retailer's performance. I started with the S&P 500, identified about 20-25 retailers that I want to look at, and have very slowly and painfully starting gathering data and putting it together in some kind of informative way. In last week's Retail Paradox Weekly, we pointed to indictors that suggest retailers are not necessarily planning deep cuts in IT spending in the face of global economic concerns. Retailers who outperform their peers (what we call "Retail Winners" in our research) view times like these as opportunities to pull ahead of the competition.
